As a survivor of narcissistic abuse, the journey to healing and rediscovery is often arduous and deeply personal. After enduring the turbulence of separation and divorce, I found myself standing at the threshold of my house—a space once shared, now solely mine. This transition marked the beginning of a transformative journey, one where I reclaimed not only my space but also my sense of self.

  1. Sprinkling Salt for Cleansing the Past: One of the first steps in my healing process was to cleanse the space of lingering negative energies. Drawing from ancient practices, I sprinkled salt in the corners of each room. This ritualistic act felt like a symbolic purge of the past, a way to absorb and eradicate the remnants of painful memories that clung to the walls of my home. After 3 days, I vacuumed it up and disposed of the bag far far away from my house.

  2. Deep Cleaning's Therapeutic Power of Order There's something profoundly therapeutic about cleaning and organizing. I spent hours vacuuming, washing curtains, and scrubbing surfaces. Each stroke felt like a small victory, a reclaiming of territory. It wasn't just about cleanliness; it was a way to establish order in a life that had felt chaotic for too long.

  3. Rearranging Furniture Gives A New Perspective Rearranging furniture was more than a physical activity; it was a metaphor for reshaping my life. Moving sofas, tables, and chairs, I was redesigning my living space to reflect the new me. Each new layout was a step towards a fresh perspective, a visual representation of moving forward.

  4. Fixing Floors and Painting Walls to Start from Scratch Fixing the floors and painting certain walls became acts of self-care and empowerment. Each nail hammered and every stroke of paint was a testament to my resilience. I chose colors that soothed and uplifted my spirits, transforming my environment into a sanctuary that echoed my inner renewal.

  5. Creating Art in Expressing the Unspoken Working on my paintings and other creative projects has allowed me to channel my emotions into something tangible. Each canvas became a piece of my story, a blend of colors and forms that conveyed feelings I couldn't articulate in words. Investing in art, whether created by me or others, filled my space with inspiration and beauty, serving as daily reminders of my journey and growth.

  6. Finding Myself in My Space This process of redecorating and rearranging was not just about creating a pleasing aesthetic; it was a profound journey of self-discovery. In redesigning my space, I was also redesigning my life. Each choice reflected my tastes, my desires, and my dreams. It was a way to assert my identity in a space that once felt oppressive.

Today, my house is more than just my living space; it's more of a sanctuary of healing, hope, and renewal than before. It stands as a testament to my journey, a space where I found strength and rediscovered myself. And the journey doesn't end here; I continue to find ways to improve and enhance this sanctuary, ensuring it evolves with me. This ongoing process of transformation is not just about changing a physical space—it's about nurturing my own growth and wellbeing. For anyone embarking on a similar path, know that transforming your space can be a powerful step in your healing process. It's not just about the physical changes; it's about the emotional and spiritual renewal that comes with continually reclaiming and reinventing your environment and, in turn, your life.

  • A high-quality sea salt for cleansing rituals, suitable for absorbing negative energies in your home.

  • A sage smudging kit, including sage sticks and an abalone shell, has also been a complement to my salt cleansing using smudging to purify my space energy-wise every now and then.

2. Deep Cleaning Supplies for Therapeutic Order

  • Good cleaning supplies are essential and this Pink Stuff is my favorite and I can feel that my cleansing process is as effective and healing as the intention behind it.

  • High-quality, durable cleaning tools like sweepers, dusters, microfiber cloths, and a sturdy mop, also make the deep cleaning process more efficient and satisfying.

3. Furniture Rearrangement and Interior Redesign

6. Personalizing Decor to Reflect the New Self
